Commitment to a passionate embrace of life, good heartedness, spontaneous playfulness, and emotional maturity are all important to me; in both others and in myself.

Since 2001 I've lived the majority of the time in Europe; including Bavaria in Germany, Paris France, and Southern Sweden. Somewhat amazingly (for my degree of exposure) I'm terrible at speaking any of those languages and mostly just say things to make native speakers laugh.

I've worked as a management consultant with client engagements in Russia, Brazil, Australia, Canada and the US (plus volunteer work in Ethiopia), as an engineer of monitoring and control software for the International Space Station, and for a think tank that studies global trends in the international balance of power between nations.

Despite (and because of) my work; I also really value simplicity; and actually I am not particularly enamored with technology. In general, when I am with people I want to really be with them, and when I am in nature or a beautiful city I want to be there with it - immersed in that experience rather than distracted.

I sometimes think/feel that I've been doing too much and would like to simply sit by a river and drink tea and eat oranges, and listen to the river; as Leonard Cohen sings about. If you know the song, you know it's not about being alone, and what is special is not so much the river, the tea, or the oranges.

Outside of a beautiful home, healthy food, ability to travel, and a few other things, for some reason I don't covet much of what society has for sale. I think maybe because I don't generally watch television. (I do really appreciate movies.) Or maybe it's because I already have everything I want and am generally happy.

In high school and university I was really committed to my varsity wrestling team, but those days are long gone. I loved it, and got a lot of things that young people need (confidence, many great lifelong friends, a chance to practice discipline, dedication, etc.) from those experiences, but competitive sports are not really part of my identity or life now.

At this point I appreciate how sports/physical activities help cultivate physical self-awareness and the ability to live more consciously in one's own body - which in turn enables deeper intimacy. (I'm curious to hear if it feels that way for you too.)

I experience intimacy partially in the sharing of essential human experiences that take us back to the roots of our beings. Simple things such as eating together, sharing moments of truth in the space between heartbeats, first touches, last (goodbye) touches, feeling our own and each other's living breathing bodies, sensuality/sexuality from within a shared state of presence...
