What Is The Turkey Baster Method?
This is a form of self-insemination it is when you inject the sperm into your vagina using a syringe. You should make sure that you use a clean and sterile syringe (this should be the needle free variety with a plunger) which you can pick up from a chemist ( oral medicine syringes) or from your GP.
You will also need a cup to collect the sperm so that it is ready for use with the syringe. This should also be sterile.
Remember with self-insemination using donated sperm there are health risks, if the sperm has not been screened for sexually transmitted infections.
There are also legal consequences in that the donor may have legal rights over any child born, whereas if you use a licensed clinic for artificial insemination the sperm donor will have no legal rights regarding the child.
See our UK law and our Fertility Treatments sections.
You can also ask the sperm donor to use a sperm test kit such as 'Fertility Score' to check his sperm count and motility (rate of movement of the sperm). This will ensure that the ejaculation that you receive actually contains sperm.
