How Do I Carry Out Self-Insemination?
1. You should make sure self-insemination takes place when you are in a good position (lying down on your back with hips raised) which will help the sperm travel downwards). You should remain in that position after insemination for 30-40 minutes.2. When using the syringe you should first draw the plunger up to draw suction.
3. You should then place the syringe in the sperm container and draw up the plunger to collect the sperm. You can tap out any air bubbles.
4. Insert the syringe into your vagina until it is close to your cervix (this feels like the hard tip of your nose when it is closed but is softer during ovulation).
5. Inject the sperm by pushing the plunger down slowly – you should try to get the semen as close to the cervix as possible.
6. Keep your hips raised so that semen does not escape from the vagina.
7. Some people find that masturbation after insemination that achieves an orgasm also helps the cervix to collect the sperm.
8. Make sure you wash and sterilise all your equipment afterwards.
9. Expect to have to try the process more than once as the results will be the same as having intercourse and so pregnancy is not guaranteed on the first try.
