IVF mix up
Carolyn and Sean Savage have written a book "Inconceivable" about the IVF mix up that led to Carolyn carrying and giving birth to the child of another couple; effectively acting as a surrogate mother.The child was subsequently given to the other couple.
IVF Treatment
The Savages who had three children at the time of the IVF treatment wanted another child, but due to complications from the birth of their last child (also using IVF) this would be the couples' last attempt. As subsequent attempts may be too risky for Carolyn.
IVF Clinic
Ten days after first learning she had successfully become pregnant they received a call from the clinic. The clinic admitted it had transferred the wrong embryos. She was carrying another couples' child.
Decision
The Savages then had to make a decision - whether to carry on with the pregnancy or abort. They decided to carry on to full term. Logan was born in September 2009.
IVF Friends
The Savages and the other couple, the Morells have become friends through their ordeal. The Morell family regularly send photos of Logan, and have said they will tell him of the mix up one day.
