IVF Regulation in Canada

• Regulated by The Assisted Human reproduction Canada (AHRC)

• Allows egg and sperm donation and embryo research under strict regulations.

• Sperm and eggs to be used to create embryos can only be used with the donor's written consent.

• Donor anonymity but no payments can be made to donors other than reasonable expenses.

• No official limit on number of children per donor but tend to follow world-wide recommendations of 25 children per population of 800,000.

• Allows treatment for lesbian and single women as well as married women.

• National Health Plan – Medicare covers cost of treatment in some provinces otherwise possible to use personal tax credits to cover a portion of the IVF treatment.
