Human Menopausal Gonadotrophins (hMG)

Other brand names, Perganyl, Hemegon, Repronex

Like the drug Clomid there is a risk of multiple pregnancies. This drug is used to treat fertility problems in both men and women.

This drug is beneficial for women with problems ovulating and for men with low sperm count or motility.

It is usually prescribed if Clomid has not worked because there is are more serious risks associated with this drug.

The drug is a mixture of Follicle Stimulating Hormones (FSH) and Luteinising hormone (LH) and is given by a course of injections and treatment lasts 7 – 12 days each month.

Treatment involves regular internal examinations and ultrasound and once your eggs are mature you will be given Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hGC) to help the release of the eggs.

Unlike Clomid there is not a risk of developing ovarian cancer but there is a small risk of developing ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome (OHSS) where the ovaries swell due to excessive number of eggs and the condition if untreated can be fatal.
