Egg donor hopeful in new plea to women
A woman has issued a renewed plea for people to come forward and donate eggs as she battles to have a baby. The 30-year-old, who asked not to be named, contacted the Mail last year in a desperate last-ditch attempt to raise awareness of the shortage of egg donations in East Staffordshire.
But despite the appeal, she is still on the list awaiting a donation. She said:
“Unfortunately, we still have not been able to find an egg donor. I would just like to thank everyone who has already come forward following the appeal but would also like to encourage others to come forward. This is our last hope and all we can do is make a heartfelt plea to any potential donors to come forward and help us have a child."
“I got married in 2008 and soon after, made the decision to try to have a baby. I was diagnosed with having been through the menopause but could only narrow it down that it had occurred in the last three years."
“I was absolutely devastated with the news and since April 2009 have been trying to get an egg donation.”
Menopause signals the end of the fertile phase of a woman’s life and normally occurs during their late 40s or early 50s.
Kevin Artley, who is consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist and clinical director for women, children and surgical services at Burton’s Queen’s Hospital, spoke to the Mail after learning of the woman’s plight. Mr Artley, who is also medical director at the Burton Centre for Reproductive Medicine, said:
“We welcome the fact that the Mail is again highlighting this problem and if even one or two people come forward because of this, it will make a massive difference. If people are interested we would urge them to contact us here at the centre for more information or go through their GP."
“We would also like to remind people that there are stringent criteria for being a donor and a number of checks would be made before any decision was taken.” - burtonmail.co.uk
