Egg donor fees increase in the UK
The fees paid to egg donors in the UK were officially increased on 1st April 2012.The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) announced in October 2011 that payments to egg donors would be revised and increased.
Under the new payments scheme clinics will pay egg donors a fixed fee of £750 per donation cycle. However, unlike sperm donation this figure includes all expenses incurred by the egg donor, such as travel expenses and loss of earnings.
The new guidance also keeps the practice of benefits in kind offered by some fertility clinics. For example, some clinics offer free or reduced fee IVF treatment to women who also donate their eggs, either for treatment used by another woman or for research purposes, this practice is known as "egg sharing".
