Adopted son finds birth mother via Facebook
A mother who put her child up for adoption 36 years ago has been contacted by him on Facebook.Chris Haworth contacted 54-year-old Pat Corlett with the message, "H, my name is Chris, I was born on 22nd June 1975. You may not want to reply to this...."
Pat immediately and instinctively knew it was the son who she put up for adoption. "It was like a bomb going off, but a nice bomb," she said.
Chris, (who she named David) was her first born. Pat became pregnant when she was 18 and was in a relationship at the time. However, she split from her boyfriend soon after becoming pregnant, and never told him.
Pat went on to marry her husband of 33 years Bob. She told Bob about her adopted son. The couple faced problems having children of their own.
"It was especially painful, of course, because of the baby I had given up," Pat said. "I thought about him every day, especially as we were trying so hard to have children. In the end we started to look into adoption."
The couple eventually had two children together, Andrew and Michael. However, Michael sadly died in 2003 from Burkett's lymphoma.
“Chris coming back in our lives is like the rounding off of a story. He can never replace Michael, of course, but to have him with us is a real happy ending.”
