Lorraine Pascale

John Nettles

John Vivian Drummond Nettles OBE. Character actor John Nettles was born in St.Austell in Cornwall. Adopted at birth by carpenter Eric Nettles and wife Elsie. His birth mother was a Roman Catholic Irish nurse working in England during World War II. She was placed in a mental institution after illegitimately giving birth and died of tuberculosis aged only 28. He never discovered his father's identity, but has a brother and two sisters.

Calista Flockhart

Calista became a single mother in 1988 when she adopted a ten day old baby called Liam.

They later married and had a daughter Mona Simpson, the novelist, Steve Jobs' biological sister.

Debbie Harry

Singer-songwriter, actress and lead singer of Blondie, the hugely influential punk and new-wave band. Debbie Harry was born in Miami, Florida. She was adopted by Catherine Harry and Richard Smith of Hawthorne, New Jersey.

Kate Adie

Kate Adie OBE. Award winning British journalist, best known as a war correspondent. Adopted as a baby by a couple from Sunderland, North-East England. Her birth mother Dean Dunnet, became pregnant during World War II, while her husband was serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps in India. To avoid scandal she was given up for adoption.

Connie Chung

Connie and her talk show husband Maury Povich adopted a son Mathew Jay in 1995.

Edie Falco

Edie and her husband adopted a baby boy called Anderson in 2004.

George Lucas

George adopted a daughter (Amanda) with his then wife in 1981 He then adopted two further children as a single father (Katie born in 1988 and Jett born in 1993).
